2019 Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program Now Open

All Plano ISD and public school sophomores and juniors with at least a 3.0 GPA who reside in the City of Plano are invited to apply for the sixth year of the Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program. This coveted program gives students the opportunity to work at a top North Texas company during the summer, learning essential workforce skills and connecting to industry professionals. The program is an eight-week paid internship from June 10 through August 2, allowing students to earn a minimum of $10 per hour working 20-40 hour weeks.

Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere recognizes how much students can benefit from real-life experiences in the workplace. The opportunity to shadow executives, network with upper-level management, work on meaningful assignments and gain exposure to a wide variety of careers is priceless.

Participating companies from past years include Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Plano, JCPenny, JPMorgan Chase, PepsiCo/Frito-Lay, Toyota Motor North America, Hilti, Inc. and Capital One. Additionally, several nonprofits participated in the program including Boys & Girls Club of Collin County, Children’s Health and My Possibilities.

“Students, don’t pass up this incredible life-changing opportunity to learn the ropes of the workplace and get your foot in the door at an amazing organization,” said Major LaRosiliere. “These internships, which would make a college student envious, will put you ahead of your peers in terms of experience and general knowledge of what it takes to land that dream job and build a lifelong career.”

In order to qualify for the program, students who are at least 16 years of age and match the description above must first complete an online application, which includes a short essay.

In an effort to prepare the students as well as possible, a mandatory training will be held Saturday, March 23, focusing on resumé development, interviewing, business communication, professional dress and personal goal planning.

Upon completion of the application and training, employers will then conduct interviews with intern candidates at a highly competitive Job Fair on Friday, April 26 from 3-7pm at the Plano Event Center. If selected to participate in the program, students will receive a formal job offer in May and complete two days of Intern Enrichment and Orientation on June 5 and June 6 where business soft skills, networking, team building and work-readiness topics will be discussed.

If interested in applying, students can find the online application at planomayorsinterns.org until March 1 at 5pm.
