Adopt a Lovepacs Christmas Box to Feed Hungry Plano Kids Over Winter Break

For many local kids, when there’s no school during winter break, there’s no breakfast or lunch. Many families who are on free or reduced lunches rely on the schools to help feed their children during financially tough times.

Lovepacs is a nonprofit organization that helps fill those gaps with donated food items. Since 2011 Lovepacs has donated more than two million meals to hungry children and their families, and in 2018 served more than 5,700 children in more than 139 Texas schools.

Mimi Conner is the current Plano chapter lead and works directly with Plano ISD counselors, social workers and parent liaisons to help identify families and alleviate their hunger during Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break.

“My eyes have been opened up since I was brought onto Lovepacs this past January. The needs within our schools at all levels is staggering. There are many reasons why a family has food insecurities and every family has a story,” Mimi said.

Lovepacs Plano has an urgent need for 50 more Christmas Boxes to feed Plano students and their families before the boxes are distributed on Dec. 16.

Individuals, families, groups or businesses can adopt a Christmas Box. Weirs Furniture, JCPenney, iQor and Liberty Mutual are a few of the companies who have already committed to adopting a box. Planning a Christmas party with girlfriends or your book club? Why not join forces to adopt a Christmas Box together?

Boxes can be adopted by contacting Mimi Conner at 214-202-9421 or Mimi.Conner@lovepacs.org. The shopper can pick up a box from Mimi to fill, or purchase needed items and bring to her to package. See the list of most-needed items here.

Interested citizens can also make a financial donation or volunteer to help pick up food, sort, and pack.

“We are committed to engage our community to feed our children in need as an expression of love,” Mimi said.
