Alamo Drafthouse Coming to Frisco in 2020

We love Austin for so many reasons – tacos, live music, those tacky Keep Austin Weird shirts. And now our neighbor to the south is gifting Frisco with another one of its greatest offerings, Alamo Drafthouse cinema.

Alamo Drafthouse plans to open its first Frisco location in 2020 at The Hub at Frisco Station, the entertainment district of the 242-acre Frisco Station mixed-use development at the northwest corner of Warren Parkway and the Dallas North Tollway. This will be Alamo’s seventh North Texas location.

Alamo Drafthouse Frisco will have eight screens with seating for over 1,200 guests. This location will still present all the cool stuff that makes this brand so beloved by cinephiles: new releases, deep dives into specific genres, opening night parties, a craft food and beverage menu, fundraiser screenings and luxury recliners in each auditorium.

Founded in 1997 as a single-screen mom-and-pop theater in Austin, and named the “The Coolest Theater in the World” by Wired magazine, Alamo is known just as much for its zero tolerance policy on talking and texting as it is for the rare and funny clips shown before each movie.

The Frisco theater will also feature the Video Vortex bar, its first appearance in Texas. It’s a play on old-school video rental stores, with themed cocktails and 32 local draft beers on tap. The bar will host an actual movie rental store with Blu-ray and DVD titles, as well as rare VHS tapes and genre releases, including many titles never released on digital formats. A fully stocked Mondo store will also sell movie-related merchandise, games, toys, posters and vinyl releases.

“Alamo Drafthouse’s first location in Frisco is particularly exciting for a few reasons,” says Alamo Drafthouse DFW Chief Operations Officer Bill DiGaetano. “We have a great location right off the Dallas North Tollway and an incredible city and fan base to serve, which is always a lot of fun.”

The Hub, Frisco Station’s centerpiece, is designed with more than 200,000 square feet of food, beverage, entertainment and retail options. “Having Alamo Drafthouse at The Hub will enhance the vibrancy and sense of place that we are creating at Frisco Station.” said Mike Berry, president of Hillwood, Frisco Station’s master developer.
