City of Plano to Launch New Hot Air Balloon May 4th

The City of Plano will christen its new hot air balloon on May 4, 2016 at 7:00 A.M., at Oak Point Park at the Plano Balloon Festival site located on Spring Creek Parkway, just north of Parker Road (see map below).  Weather permitting, the balloon will launch.

The reveal celebrates Plano’s rich tradition of hot air ballooning, along with National Travel and Tourism week.  The 2016 InTouch Credit Union Plano Balloon Festival marks 37 years of ballooning in Plano.  But hot air balloons aren’t the only thing going up in the City of Excellence.  Plano’s hotel room nights, hotel room revenue and VisitPlano.com page visits are all up and rising fast.  Visit Plano booked room nights for 88 conventions, meetings and sporting events, accommodating more than 186,000 people.

The new 700 pound balloon, named Excellence, is six and a half stories tall and has a vibrant red, white, blue and black checkered design with a giant City of Plano logo and the words “City of Excellence”.  At the bottom of the balloon is Visit Plano’s website:  visitplano.com.  It is a 2016 Cameron XL-70 racer with a unique design that allows it to be more maneuverable in flying conditions.

The public is invited to come out and take photos.
