Get ready for a taste of authentic Mexican cuisine because the Barraza family will be soon opening up El Piropo restaurant in the Downtown Plano Arts District. Jose Manuel, Ricardo and Jose Barraza fell in love with Downtown Plano’s heart for culture and knew their idea for a restaurant would fit in perfectly.
El Piropo, meaning “flirtatious compliment” in Spanish, is a unique concept for a restaurant pairing authentic dining with authentic art. The restaurant will have a section called La Galeria that showcases paintings from Mexican and local artists.
“You come to Downtown Plano and are immediately greeted with bright, yarn covered trees, patios filled with people enjoying afternoon cocktails, and kitschy little mom ’n pop shops,” said Jose Barraza, one of El Piropo’s owners. “We felt like we would fit right in here and that people would enjoy an authentic taste of Mexico.”
El Piropo’s Mexican chef and sommelier has developed a food and beverage menu that incorporates flavors from over 20 regions south of the border. They will offer a variety of unique cocktails, tequilas and mezcals for their customers to enjoy.
This family-owned and operated restaurant is anticipated to open July 4 at 1422 K Avenue. If you have gotten your fill of our local Tex-Mex options, El Piropo is the place for you to take part in real Mexican food, flavors and colors.
