Environmentally Friendly Moving with Plano’s Elephant Trunk Moving Supplies

With the 50th anniversary of Earth Day coming up April 22, it feels appropriate to highlight an enterprise that is helping Plano citizens minimize carbon footprints. Entrepreneurial trio John, Mollie and Chloe Hancock are more than just affable business partners – they’re family. John and Mollie are parents to Chloe, a 25-year-old who shared that it was not even a question that she would join the family business. John, a former English teacher, is now the face of their business, Elephant Trunk Moving Supplies, but Mollie is where all this really started.

“When I was a kid, I was an ‘Earth muffin’ for sure. I’ve always been ecologically conscious. After 22 years in real estate, I’d heard all the local movers lament about the cardboard box. We’d tried to repurpose cardboard boxes, but that’d only last so long. In 2013, I heard about a company called Frog Box that provides reusable boxes for moves,” Mollie said.

Two years later, in 2015, Mollie and John decided to start Elephant Trunk Moving Supplies, a company that provides reusable, stackable, recyclable plastic containers to individuals or businesses for their moves.

“The containers are made in the United States. We have about 3,000 and have never sent any to the landfill,” Mollie said.

How it works

“The way the process works is we offer packages dependent on how many bedrooms you’re packing for. The minimum rental period is two weeks, but you can choose however many weeks you need. Then we deliver the boxes and wait to hear from you for pickup after you’re done moving,” Chloe explained.

“Not only are you lessening your footprint on the environment, but the boxes are easier to use and move around than cardboard boxes,” John said. Other perks that clients have experienced include relief from allergens, more space (no cardboard boxes sitting in the garage after a move), time and money saved on moving and cost of boxes.

Elephant Trunk Moving Supplies will deliver and pick up boxes anywhere in DFW, as long as it’s approximately within an hour’s drive from Plano. The business does not have a storefront as of yet, but orders are easily placed from the website.
