Plano Garden Club’s 2017 Tour of Gardens is all about “sharing the love of gardening” this year. It will feature five very special gardens, all located between Coit Road and North Central Expressway, and between Legacy Drive and Hedgcoxe Road. This year’s tour dates are Saturday, April 29 from 11 am to 5 pm, and Sunday April 30 from 1 pm to 5 pm. Visitors may tour either day and the tours will be open rain or shine.
The public can view five gardens filled with a variety of plants. Some of the unique features include at least 400 plant varieties featured in themed “rooms” and an abundance of Japanese Maple trees. Lush, welcoming yards are filled with hydrangeas, John Fannick Phlox, and azaleas and a perennial lover’s garden which was created by a “west coast transplant.” A private shade garden intermingled with potted plants bordered by a creek is the draw of one garden, with more than 1,500 varieties of irises.
Tickets are available in advance for $12 from any Plano Garden Club member, at Shades of Green Nursery in Frisco or can be ordered from Mittie McDonald, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tickets can also be purchased at the start of the tour on Saturday, April 29 or Sunday, April 30 for $15 at the Lee Garden, 7413 Breakers Lane Plano, TX 75025.
Children under 12 may attend free of charge. Proceeds from the tour go to Plano Garden Club Scholarship Fund, which awards money to students studying horticulture-related fields. Additional scholarship information can be found online at www.planogardenclub.org.
2017 marks the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the Plano Garden Club and the celebration continues as the club meets on the first Tuesday of each month. Check out the club’s Facebook page as well for additional information.
