Battleship, Taboo, Settlers of Catan and Pandemic are just a few of the board games that Plano’s new Friend & Foe Board Game Café has to offer. With about 625 board games lining the walls of the café, every guest is bound to find a game right up their alley.
Corey Goodwin, Ashley Davis and Brad Davis started Friend & Foe Board Game Café out of a desire to grow the hobby of board gaming and to provide a “go-to” location where communities can gather.
“Each of us has personally seen the advantages and benefits that board games brings to the table,” said Corey. “We are excited to share and grow the hobby of board gaming with new and seasoned players as well.”
Corey, Ashley and Brad felt that most spaces around town were not very conductive to board game playing, as coffee shops were usually too quiet and bars were too loud or dark, so they decided to create their own space.
Friend & Foe offers classic family games, party games, light strategy games, strategy games, epic games and games perfect for two people. After choosing your game of choice, guests can order food and beverages from the café. They serve seven different sandwiches, three salads, a variety of snacks and up to 40 different wines, beers and ciders.
“For us, the board games are the medium we focus on to bring people together,” said Corey. “People naturally gather; they naturally eat and drink. But with the rise in technology, the more time you spend not interacting with another person, you lose a lot of social skills that help a community function well. Board games put people face to face in a way that grows people without force.”
Friend & Foe Board Game Café will celebrate its grand opening party Saturday, Oct. 5 from noon to midnight. Regular hours are Monday through Thursday from noon to 10pm, Friday through Saturday from noon to midnight and closed on Sunday.
There is a $5 cover charge for patrons who want to stay and play. Children 12 and under are free with paying adults.Friend & Foe Board Game Café
