The space directly across Windrose Avenue from Legacy Hall will soon be teeming with luxury shoppers, or at least that’s Legacy West’s bet. Retailers Tiffany & Co., Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Tory Burch are all planned to open in May or June in the space currently under construction. The site was initially slated to be a luxury hotel, but obviously those plans have changed.

This will likely be the last new retail development at Legacy West. Construction on the 415,000-square-foot development began in 2014. It now claims to be the largest mixed-use retail destination in North Texas, with its three-story food hall, scores of shopping destinations and more than 20 restaurants.

Changes are also coming to the existing part of the property. Nike and Chanel Beauty have both confirmed that they will soon unveil new outposts along Windrose. Opening dates have yet to be announced but are expected to be closer to summer. Nike is currently slated to occupy the space between Neighborhood Goods and Fabletics, and Chanel Beauty will be located between Filson and Rustic Cuff.

Some may question the wisdom of opening new brick-and-mortar stores in the age of digital shopping, particularly when a global pandemic is still raging. According to Rachel Chang, marketing director for property manager DJM Capital, there is still a high demand for the in-person retail experience. She believes that great real estate always bounces back, which is exactly what’s already started happening at Legacy West. Obviously, business sharply declined during mandated closures last spring. However, since the summer, shoppers have been steadily coming back.

Rachel says stores like Lululemon and Coach were able to adapt to the new market realities by adding services like curbside delivery or online ordering with in-store pick-up. She also believes that Legacy West itself has many advantages because it has a wide variety of offerings, is outdoors and is easily accessible. All of those things have added up to a relatively quick recovery and optimism for the new year.

“We’re just really excited to get going on 2021,” she says. “We think we have a great property in a great area and that definitely helps us.”
