Join Friends of the Plano Public Library for Exclusive Perks at the Annual Book Sale

Plano book lovers look forward to the Friends of the Plano Public Library Book Sale, which takes place Thursday through Saturday, July 25-27 at the Plano Event Center, 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. But many don’t know that they can also join the non-profit, membership organization that runs the annual event. Net proceeds from the Friends’ Book Sale help provide for library needs not covered in the city’s budget – such as the library’s popular More than Books mobile outreach van.

Anyone may purchase a membership online or at the sale. Beginning July 25, yearly memberships are $25 for individuals and $40 for families.

Thanks to a new program of Membership Levels that kicks in the first night of the 36th annual Sale, Members will enjoy an expanded array of benefits in 2019. That includes one of the most valued benefits: early admission to the Book Sale. This year, Friends members can shop from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, affording them two hours of private bargain shopping before the general public.

“Shoppers always find great bargains at any time during the sale, but those first few hours offer the best selection,” said Scott Johnson, President of the Friends of the Plano Public Library.

New Benefits Package

In addition to free, early admission on Thursday night, members enjoy a 10% discount on all purchases any day of the Book Sale, as well as year-round exclusive early access to special “pop-up” author events at Plano libraries including a $5 discount on advance purchase tickets. Plus, individual Friends members ($25 level) will receive an auto window sticker to show their support and Family members ($40) will receive the sticker as well as a book bag.

Higher membership levels, with additional benefits, are available for those who’d like to donate more. In addition to the above-mentioned benefits, they receive:

Contributor Level ($75): Invitation to a private Friends event, a “back of the library” tour, t-shirt and a bookplate with the donor’s name inscribed on a new book, selected by the library staff and added to the library’s collection.

Lifetime members ($500): All of the Contributor Level benefits plus a permanent plaque with the family’s name, two tickets to a pop-up author event and a custom library card.

An additional slate of benefits is also available to contributing Small Business ($350) and Corporate ($1000) donors. For details, visit the Friends website at  www.friendsofplanolibrary.org. (Note: New Membership Levels will be posted on July 25.)

Earlier Schedule

This year’s Book Sale schedule is somewhat different from previous years, due to a scheduling conflict at the Event Center. The sale is opening one day earlier (on Thursday) and concluding a day earlier (on Saturday).

Almost 100,000 hardbacks, paperbacks, DVDs, CDs and records will be available at prices ranging from 25¢ to $2.

Public hours for Book Sale are from 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, with an admission fee of $5 for individuals and $10 for families. Admission is free on Friday and Saturday.  Friday hours are 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. An extra Saturday incentive includes special pricing for all merchandise at $10 for a bag of books (and the Friends supply the bags)!
