Little Hands Against Poverty

Little Hands Against Poverty began as a summer donation drive started by a motivated group of local children ages 2-13 who live by the motto “Be the change that you want to see.”

During the 2018 summer break, this excited group of kids got together and decided to make a difference in their communities via unconditional love and dedication. Instead of spending their summer in the pool or at a park, these Plano and Frisco kids began collecting items to donate to those less fortunate.

“What is so unique and different about this group is that before collecting donations from others, these kids began collecting donations within themselves,” said Deepu Khoja, the coach and mentor for Little Hands Against Poverty. “Some of these kids gave up their favorite toys and belongings to help the poor and underprivileged.”

After collecting from their own toys, the members of Little Hands Against Poverty began going door-to-door to drop off collection bags in their neighborhoods.

The support these kids received was outstanding, turning this summer donations drive into a fall event as well. Once all the donation items were collected, the kids met back up in September to sort and organize the 150 bags of donated goods they received.

Because of the hard work and compassionate hearts of these kids, Little Hands Against Poverty was able to donate 10,844 items to Habitat for Humanity, Orphan Outreach and Hope’s Door New Beginning Center.

Little Hands Against Poverty plans to organize another philanthropic event in the near future. Any children interested in joining can contact the group via email.
