Where to Celebrate National Taco Day in Plano on Oct. 4th

Let’s taco-bout Tex Mex. Plano is full of tasty restaurants ready to dole out a mean taco. Whether you are looking for street-style or upscale tacos, one of our community’s hot spots has got you covered. Treat yourself this Wednesday for National Taco Day at one of these Plano favorites.

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop

For a taco with a kick, make your way over to Fuzzy’s to try out their hottest (literally) item, the California Heat Taco with tempura shrimp, bacon, avocado and Sriracha-lime sauce. The Fort Worth favorite opened its doors almost 15 years ago and has since spread its tacos all over the country, including to their central Plano location. On this National Taco Day, stop by Fuzzy’s to snag one of their $1 baja tacos. You can choose between a crispy or soft tortilla filled with your choice of protein.

Mesero

For a night out in Plano’s new adult playground, make your way to Legacy West to try out Mesero. The Dallas favorite opened its fifth location in west Plano a few weeks back, and it is already serving up some premium Tex Mex flare with an array of tacos. Their asada tacos with grilled steak, onions, arroz rojo and Mesero slaw are packed with flavor while remaining light. To make the night extra special, try out one of their specialty frozen cocktails like margaritas or frozé.

Meso Maya

Get a taste for west Plano’s latest Central/Southern Mexican addition by stopping by Meso Maya. Even though they just officially opened their doors in late September, the Meso Maya name has been perfecting tacos in Dallas for years. You can’t go wrong with any of their selections, but their pork carnitas served with pickled red onions, chile de arbol salsa and queso fresco on a homemade soft white corn tortilla is out of this world. Make sure to add their habanero sauce on top to switch on the spice.

Torchy’s Tacos

Torchy’s Tacos, the Austin taco team that has made a name for itself all throughout Texas, offers a wide selection of “damn good” tacos featuring tasty combinations like hand-battered, fried avocados with pico de gallo. You can also snag a pair of fish tacos like the Mr. Orange with blackened salmon and the Mr. Pink with seared ahi tuna. Or take advantage of their latest creation, the Tailgater. This featured taco of the month starts out with a panko fried chicken tender and finishes off with bacon, green chile queso, diablo wing sauce, ranch slaw, blue cheese and a dollop of honey. And Torchy’s green chile queso alone makes any lunch break or night out one you’re sure to remember. (It’s been voted Best Queso in Plano by Plano Magazine readers the last two years.)

Urban Rio

Urban Rio opened up in the revamped Plano Ice House in 2009 and has been whipping up great Mexican-inspired cuisine ever since. Their house-smoked brisket puts the Tex in Tex Mex with its diced pickle and jalapeño slaw served on three house-ground corn tortillas. Don’t fret, vegetarians! Urban Rio also has a scrumptious veggie option with mushrooms, Mexican squash, bell peppers and avocado salad. And in honor of National Taco Day, Urban Rio will offer ground beef tacos for just $2 all day! So grab a seat on their sidewalk patio or the open-air, second floor cantina to take in the views while enjoying one of the city’s best tacos.
