Austin-based Tecovas is opening at Plano’s Legacy West neighborhood March 14. The brand produces high-quality Western footwear, apparel and accessories for women and men, tapping into the traditional way these products were made back in the days of the Old West.

Tecovas founder and CEO Paul Hendrick was born in Houston and raised in Dallas, so cowboy culture has always been an important part of his life.

“After spending a pretty penny rewarding myself with a new pair of ostrich boots after my first year in my finance job in New York, I realized the shopping and brand options at the time were not ideal,” Paul said.

He decided to take things into his own hands and start a company that would create beautiful, comfortable, high-quality boots that were affordable. “So, I left Manhattan and moved to Austin to create Tecovas and fulfill my dream of building a brand from the ground up,” he shared. All of Tecovas’ products are manufactured in Leon, Mexico, a city known by many as the shoe and leather capital of the world.

Tecovas designs its brick-and-mortar stores to be as comfortable as they are beautiful, a places where customers can try on products but also feel right at home with a cool drink in hand. Expect to be welcomed at the Plano retail shop by a warm space filled with rugged and industrial materials, and cowboy-inspired décor like saddles and spurs.

“Our Legacy West store’s handmade feel and playful décor is inspired by the idyllic cowboy and his place within the vast frontier,” Paul said.

In the Plano store, you can get custom leather debossing, boot shines and refreshments like Topo Chico, local beer, bourbon and occasionally craft cocktails. And, of course, you can buy top-of-the line handcrafted boots, apparel, bags and accessories.
