Top 5 things to do at your Plano Public Library this June

From preschool to professional, Plano Public Library (PPL) has something for everyone. Not interested in reading? No biggie – PPL is #morethanbooks! Check out some of their upcoming events – in-person and virtual – for all your educating and entertaining needs:

 

1. Kick off your summer learning goals
(All ages)

Participate in fun festivities as you explore all the library has to offer on Saturday, June 4. Pick up your library passport and plan for a summer of exploration and discovery! All five library locations are hosting a kickoff event:

Harrington and Parr: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. 
Davis: 12 – 2 p.m. 
Haggard and Schimelpfenig: 2 – 4 p.m. 

2. Take charge of your financial affairs
(adults, registration requested)

The Senior Source is offering a four-part series of financial literacy classes designed to help you protect your money from harm and abuse and be better prepared for the unpredictable challenges of life. Money Smart for Older Adults meets on Wednesdays, June 8-29 from 1-3 p.m. at Haggard Library. Registration is requested: email cburlbaw@theseniorsource.org and mention that you plan to attend classes at Haggard Library



3. Learn how to get into tabletop gaming
(ages 13-18, ticketed)

The Adventure Gaming club features a series of Dungeons & Dragons adventures for teens in grades 9-12. Attendees can pick a pre-made character and dive right into the game, no experience is necessary.

Programs are held at Parr Library on Thursdays from June 2-July 7 from 6-8 p.m., with tickets being distributed starting at 5:30 p.m. For more information, read the Frequently Asked Questions on the Plano Library Learns blog.

4. Attend sensory-friendly programs in art and science
(Various ages, registration required)

Supporting Neurodivergent Access to Programming (SNAP) events have returned to the library this June.

SNAP programs are sensory-friendly and targeted toward the needs of neurodivergent children, teens, adults and their families/caregivers. Neurodivergent includes autism spectrum disorder, ADD/ADHD, Tourette’s and other developmental and learning disabilities. Register for events by emailing snapprograms@plano.gov

  • SNAP Art Adventurers (All Ages): June 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Schimelpfenig Library and June 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Haggard Library

Structured art projects in an inclusive environment. Create a guided art activity or design your own masterpiece. Activities are scaled for all ability levels; fun for the whole family.

 

  • SNAP Science Explorers (Grades K-2): June 11 at 1 p.m. at Haggard Library

Learning and hands-on science activities geared toward children with special needs, such as autism spectrum disorders, sensory integration challenges or short attention spans.

5. Buy a bag of books
(All ages)

Friends of the Plano Public Library is hosting another Buy a Bag of Books Sale from Saturday, June 11 – Sunday, June 19 at Davis Library. Thousands of used books (and sometimes DVDs, records and audiobooks) are available for all ages for just $10 per bag, which is provided. This sale is cash and exact change only, and the sale will be open when the library is: M-Thu 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Fri 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Sat 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Sun 1-5 p.m. (last bag sold 30 minutes prior to close). All proceeds go to Friends of the Plano Public Library to benefit the five Plano libraries.

All Plano Public Library locations are open to use computers, browse the collection, and attend in-person programs. Porch side pickup for holds is available, and you can always access eLibrary content online.
