At the Texas SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference earlier this month, 11 Collin College students took home gold medals, according to a press release.
SkillsUSA is a national organization for middle school, high school and college students to work on and compete in events relating to personal, workplace and technical skills.
Only the third time Collin College has participated in the competition, 44 students represented the college district, and 11 received a gold medal.

- Jacob McCord of Richardson – Welding, Advisors Cesar Lopez-Maldonado, Landon LaRocque, and James Yale
- Joshua Meza of Mesquite – Automotive Refinishing, Advisors Raven Luna and Winferd Vermillion
- Lydia Nitz of Plano – Photography, Advisor Lisa Means
- Julian Riley of Frisco – Graphic Communications, Advisor Erin Clark
- Peter Summers of Plano – Collision Repair Technology, Advisors Raven Luna and Winferd Vermillion
- Garrett Williams of Flower Mound – Automotive, Advisor James Yervasi
Collin College students received 12 silver or bronze medals as well. The 11 gold medalists will move on to the national competition in Atlanta from June 23-27.
