Pet food donations are urgently needed, The Humane Society of Dallas County says. The organization's food wish list is available online.

Last week, Plano’s Scouting America Troop 261 built a pet food pantry at the Humane Society of Dallas County as part of Life Scout Samhith Chilakamarri’s Eagle Scout project.

“This was a unique opportunity to not only work toward my Eagle rank and give back to the community in a meaningful and impactful way,” said Chilakamarri.

As all Scouts are required to complete a service project to achieve the rank of Eagle, and Chilakamarri organized the project as a resource for families with pets facing hardship, especially as the shelter is currently experiencing a shortage of pet food.

“This food pantry represents more than just supplies; it represents stability for families and a second chance for pets,” said Sarah McGoldrick, VP of Animal Operations. “We believe pets belong at home with the people who love them, and this pantry helps make that possible.”

The pet pantry is open every day from 12 to 5 p.m., and donations of pet food are urgently needed, according to the Humane Society of Dallas County. The organization’s wishlist is available online.
