The season of North Texas Gives to Animals, a giving campaign driven by the Communities Foundation of Texas that benefits area nonprofits that serve pets, is close to the end of its campaign.
The campaign includes a fund-match from Communities Foundation of Texas fundholder Gigi Gartner, matching online gifts of the first $500 per donor, per organization until a $100,000 match has been met.
“During this special campaign, the NorthTexasGivingDay.org platform serves as a one-stop-shop to raise funds in support of animals during National Pet Month. You can support any of over 300 participating animal-focused nonprofits, and we’ve added helpful search filters to make it easy for you to support your passions and discover new organizations,” said Wayne White, Communities Foundation of Texas President and CEO.
One of these organizations is Mazie’s Mission, the only veterinary hospital in the country dedicated exclusively to serving animal rescue organizations, according to a press release.

Mazie’s Mission was founded by Erin Shultz over a decade ago. Today, the organization partners with more than 350 rescue groups to help lower euthanasia rates and benefit area rescues.
“In 2009, I adopted Mazie, my very first shelter dog. She wasn’t just a pet—she was my inspiration. Mazie came into my life when I was a practicing veterinarian, and caring for her opened my eyes to a heartbreaking reality: countless shelter and rescue animals are euthanized not for lack of love, but for lack of affordable, high-quality medical care,” Shultz said. “I founded the organization in Mazie’s honor, with one clear purpose—to provide lifesaving veterinary care to the animals who need it most, and to support the shelters and rescue groups working tirelessly to save them. Today, Mazie’s Mission is a nonprofit, veterinarian-founded and-led hospital serving thousands of animals across North Texas each year.”
According to Shultz, since then, over 12,844 animals have been cared for, more than 21,000 physical exams have been performed, there have been 5,797 spay/neuter procedures and over 6,300 X-Rays.
This year, the organization opened a new facility in Plano, aiming to expand services and reach. Now, Shultz says, they are able to offer behavioral support, training and adoption facilitation.
“Mazie changed the course of my life. Through her, I found my purpose. And through Mazie’s Mission, we’re changing the lives of thousands of animals—giving them the second chances they deserve,” she says.
The donation match for North Texas Gives to Animals ends on May 31.
