Outdoor pools to close on weekdays due to low staffing

As many lifeguards return to school, Plano's outdoor pools are shifting to weekend-only before closing for the year.

Because the lifeguard positions in Plano are often filled by high school and college students who are returning to school shortly, Plano’s outdoor pools will close on weekdays beginning August 7.

Plano Parks and Recreation said in a Facebook post that the outdoor pools will start being closed on weekdays, as many lifeguards on duty will return to school on August 9.

In addition, Jack Carter Pool will close early due to low staffing numbers. It will move to weekends only with the others on August 7, then completely close for the season on August 14. Jack Carter is the only center closing completely this season.

The pools at the Tom Muehlenbeck, Oak Point and Liberty recreation centers will remain open and switch away from the summer hours. More information about pool hours can be found on Plano’s website.
