Over a decade since its inception, the program has reached the milestone of serving over 1,000 students in Plano ISD.

The Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program (PMSIP), which began providing Plano ISD students with paid internships through partnerships with local businesses and corporations in 2014, has officially surpassed the milestone of placing 1,000 students.

The program provides rising juniors and seniors with work experience in fields like technology, finance, healthcare, education, hospitality, real estate, marketing, higher education and nonprofits, according to a news release. The students are paid by those companies for eight weeks in the summer, with nonprofit interns sponsored by corporate sponsorships and the presenting sponsor, Capital One.

“The Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program is a shining example of what it looks like when a community collectively comes together to inspire youth and drive impact to strengthen our future,” said Mayor Muns. “It provides our students with the tools they need to succeed in their professional journeys. We are grateful for the partnership with Capital One, a company renowned for its commitment to education and community development, for their continued support and leadership of the program.”
