After over a decade of service to the City of Plano public works department, Abbey Owens has been appointed Director of Public Works.

Earlier this week, the City of Plano announced the appointment of Abbey Owens as the Director of Public Works.

Owens came to the City of Plano in 2013, serving as the education and community outreach coordinator for water resources. Over the past decade, she has moved up to become sustainability and environmental education supervisor, public works compliance analyst, public works strategic planning and compliance manager, assistant director of public works for community services and finally assistant director of water and wastewater.

According to the City of Plano, Owens has also earned several professional training and certifications, is a member of professional organizations like the American Public Works Association and the American Water Works Association and has written articles for publications like the American Public Works Association Reporter.

Owens is taking over the position after former public works director Dan Prendergast, who left last month to serve as the director of public works for BGE, a civil engineering consulting firm based out of Houston.
