From preschool to professional, Plano Public Library (PPL) has something for everyone. Not interested in reading? No biggie – PPL is #morethanbooks! Check out some of their upcoming events – in-person and virtual – for all your educating and entertaining needs:
- Compete for ultimate bookworm (grades 4-8)
The teen advisory board, Teen Street Team, is hosting Ready Player Read on Sunday, December 10 at 3pm at Davis Library. Kids in grades 4-8 can come and put their knowledge of popular young adult books to the test in a trivia game. Meet others who share a love of reading and compete for the ultimate bookworm title!
- Attend a holiday puppet show (all ages, ticketed)
Library staff are performing Gingerbread Boy, a puppet show about how a gingerbread cookie eludes the hungry grasp of everyone who wants to catch him – until he meets a sly fox. There are three showings at Harrington Library:
- Tuesday, December 12 at 10:30am
- Wednesday, December 13 at 9:30am
- Thursday, December 14 at 10am
Space is limited, and free tickets will be available in-person 30 minutes before each performance.
- Boost your business with Google (adults)
Is your business on Google maps? A free business profile on Google helps a business stand out on Google Search and Maps. In the library’s “Get Your Local Business on Google Search and Maps” virtual workshop, you will learn about the different features to attract and engage customers. Create a free Google account or sign in to your account to follow along with the class.
Register for this free workshop and attend live on Tuesday, December 19 at 3pm. A recording will be available on the Plano Public Library YouTube channel afterward.
- Learn about pet responsibility (all ages)
Do you have a pet at home or do you want one? During the library’s “Pick a Pet” workshop, attendees will learn about different pets and the costs and responsibilities of owning one through hands-on activities. Pick a Pet meets on Friday, December 29 at 3pm at Harrington Library.
- Explore seasons and nature (grades K-5)
At the library’s next Nature Journaling workshop, kids in grades K-5 will learn about the cyclic and seasonal natural phenomena and how to observe them as the year begins anew. During the workshop on Saturday, December 30 at 3pm at Davis Library, you will make a Phenology Wheel to record nature observations and learn about citizen science. This is a ticketed event, and free tickets will be available 30 minutes before the class begins.
