From preschool to professional, Plano Public Library (PPL) has something for everyone. Check out some of their upcoming events – in-person and virtual – for all your educating and entertaining needs:

  1. Play Dungeons & Dragons (grades 6-12)

The Adventure Gaming Club meets weekly on Fridays in June, from 2-4pm at Davis Library. Teens will  learn the while playing as a warrior or mage in a fantasy world. Attend weekly for achievement-based bonuses. Space is limited, so get your free ticket 30 minutes before the program begins each session.

  1. Learn how to play chess (ages 13+)

Two of the newest programs this summer are Chess for Beginners and a monthly Chess Meet-Up! Both are for ages 13 and up.

Chess for Beginners meets on Saturday, June 8 from 3-4:30pm at Davis Library. Learn about the basics and history of chess, then play a few beginner games. Although some chess sets will be provided, you can bring your own sets too to learn.

Chess Meet-Up meets monthly on Wednesday from 6:30-8pm at Davis Library: June 19, July 17 and August 21. Take a moment to sit and play chess with other beginners.

  1. Live well in Plano (adults)

The second session of the Living Well series is presented by the Alzheimer’s Association: Health for Brain and Body. Join the library and Alzheimer’s Association via Zoom for a session on ways to improve or maintain overall health in these critical areas: cognitive activity, physical health and exercise, diet and nutrition, and social engagement.

  1. Movie Maker Camp (Grades 6-12)

Teens will get the opportunity to master the art of movie magic using DaVinci Resolve during this five-day camp, running June 17-21 from 2-5pm at Harrington Library. Learn the principles of filming, acting, screenwriting, editing and green screen usage. Only register if you can attend all five sessions – space is limited, so get your free ticket 30 minutes before the program begins.

  1. Meet science experts (all ages)

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science TECH Truck engages kids and caregivers in hands-on activities for the thrill of discovery that’s so essential to fostering confidence and creativity in STEAM subjects. The Community Science Meet-Up is happening three times this summer:

  • June 25 from 3-5pm at Harrington Library
  • July 12 from 2-4pm at Davis Library
  • July 17 from 3-5pm at Harrington Library

If you do not already have a Plano Public Library card, be sure to register online here. All Plano Public Library locations are open to use computers, browse the collection, and attend in-person programs. Porch side pickup for holds is available, and you can always access eLibrary content online.
