One visit to Downtown Plano is all it takes to see that the historic arts district is a far cry from the sleepy neighborhood full of crafting and antique stores that it was even just a decade ago. One of the families responsible for the revitalization of Downtown Plano is at it again.
In early 2018, husband-and-wife team Nathan and Bonnie Shea hope to break ground on Urban Seafood Co., a sister to the Sheas’ popular Urban Crust and Urban Rio restaurants. The Sheas also founded Urban Oil & Gas which operates from the four-story Urban Rio location at the corner of 14th Street and the DART tracks. The building encompasses the original Plano Ice House.
Chef/partner Salvatore Gisellu, executive chef at Urban Crust and Urban Rio, will also helm the kitchen at Urban Seafood Co. “We hope to include some special, traditional seafood dishes from Salvatore’s hometown of Sardinia,” said Nathan Shea.
The Sheas were inspired by the seafood restaurants they visited on their travels to Boston, Nantucket and San Francisco. Their plans for Urban Seafood Co. include an oyster bar with fresh oysters from the east coast, as well as clams, mussels and lobsters, and a warm lobster roll as their signature dish. The Downtown Plano restaurant will feature daily seafood specials as well as a fresh fish market.
Urban Seafood Co. will be located at 1104 14th Street, on the site of the former Rodenbaugh’s Appliances Outlet. A four-story building will be constructed with the restaurant on the first floor, a Pilates studio (operated by two of the Sheas’ daughters) on the second floor and office spaces for rent on the third and fourth floors. Nathan and Bonnie hope to open Urban Seafood Co. for business in late 2018.
