Picture baristas singing and dancing to loud music while making beverages in the middle of a coffee shop. This is not just a dream, but a reality for the employees of 151 Coffee.
151 Coffee is a drive-through-only coffee shop, known for exceptional coffee and fast, friendly service. The newest location just opened up in Plano, with two other existing stores already in DFW and plans to open six more locations in North Texas this year.
Rita Bielecki, vice president of store operations, feels the thing that sets 151 Coffee apart from other coffee shops are their employees. “The energy, enthusiasm and friendliness of our baristas really enhance the experience,” she said. “Even though people are going through a drive-through, we want them to have human interaction, and a chance for us to brighten up their day.”
The drive-through area of the shop is actually a sliding door, versus the window at most fast food places. The barista walks out to your car for a friendly interaction while delivering your drink.
The name 151 Coffee comes from the fact that the founder, Mark Wattles, feels that coffee is the perfect drinking temperature at 151 degrees. The coffee shop sources its coffee beans from Dillanos Coffee Roasters in the Pacific Northwest.
Customers can order from a variety of beverages including hot and cold espresso drinks, coffees, frappes, nitro cold brew as well as shakes, smoothies, energy drinks and infused teas. Most drinks are customizable with the addition of more than 30 flavorings such as French vanilla, chocolate, brown sugar cinnamon, chocolate macadamia nut and salted caramel, to name a few.
“A huge part of our culture is the music, and music drives our energy in our stores. That’s why customers hear it so loud. It’s something that motivates our people,” said Sherri Brast, talent manager and head of recruiting. “We play all different forms of music, whether it’s rock or R&B, rap or country. When you hear your favorite song, you want to sing it out loud. It puts energy in you. That’s what the music’s all about.”
The Plano location of 151 Coffee is open everyday from 6 a.m.-8 p.m.
