4th Annual Guns VS Hoses Fitness Competition

On September 18, CrossFit Alpha 1 Athlete in Plano will host the 4th annual Guns VS Hoses fitness competition. Presented by Family Health and Wellness of Plano, Guns VS Hoses is a team fitness event where 100% of the registration fees are donated to the Guns and Hoses Foundation of North Texas. This foundation gives monetary and community support to families of fallen police officers and firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Guns VS Hoses organizer and CrossFit Alpha 1 Athlete owner Rod Zilla started this event three years ago. As a former police officer, Rod had participated in an annual boxing tournament benefiting the Guns and Hoses Foundation. When he opened his own gym in 2013, he knew he wanted to continue helping. “I love the organization, I wanted to do more for them,” said Rod. But he wanted a team event that focused on something he knew a lot about––working out. And Guns VS Hoses was born.

In 2013, the first year for the Guns VS Hoses competition, approximately $4,000 was raised for the Guns and Hoses Foundation of North Texas by 120 athletes and 200 spectators. By 2015, the donation was raised to approximately $6,000 with 150 athletes and 350 spectators. Rod hopes to see the event continue to grow this year.
