Plano ranked highly for its available jobs, higher than average median annual income and relatively slow growth, according to WalletHub.

In a WalletHub study of U.S. cities, Plano ranked 9th for Best Cities for Jobs based on 31 key indicators of job-market strength.

Plano trailed behind Scottsdale, Arizona; Tampa, Florida; Salt Lake City, Utah; Columbia, Maryland; Austin, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; Seattle, Washington and Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.

The study examined job market metrics like job openings per number of population in labor force, unemployment rate, average starting salary, automation risk, retirement access, employee benefits, disability-friendliness and share of workers in poverty. The study also considered socio-economic factors like median annual income, average work and commute time, housing affordability and other societal factors.

Plano ranked highly due to a higher than average median annual income, it being easy to find a job and the city’s relatively slow growth. Our city ranked 9th in the job market metrics and 33rd in socio-economic metrics, leading to an overall 9th place score. Fellow Texas city Austin ranked 7th in the job market metrics and 16th in socio-economic ranking.

“With the U.S. experiencing a low unemployment rate and many employers still having labor shortages, now is an ideal time to find a job,” Cassandra Happe, an analyst for WalletHub, said. “Currently, workers have a lot of negotiating power. Well-qualified job candidates are in a great position to acquire competitive salaries and benefits.”
