No surprise here - Plano tops another chart with a #1 spot as the nation's most family-friendly city for renters.

In a recent study by RentCafe, Plano came out on top as the nation’s most family-friendly city for renters with its high scores in local economy, quality of life and low scores for children under the poverty line.

RentCafe analyzed over 130 U.S. cities using metrics for:

  • apartments in top locations
  • average school quality
  • annual delay per car commuter
  • share of car users
  • natural amenity ranks
  • share of days with good air quality
  • child school enrollment
  • renter married couples with children
  • children under the poverty line
  • local economy
  • unemployment
  • share of higher educated residents
  • renter income
  • job growth
  • number of business applications
  • housing and cost of living rank
  • average square food of living space
  • occupancy
  • share of new apartments
  • renter share
  • extra bedroom cost
  • population
  • applicants per vacant unit
  • lease renewal rate
  • family apartments share
  • childcare costs
  • percent of children in renter households

Plano pulled in first for its spot at 3rd for local economy and 4th place in quality of life, despite its higher cost of living.

“Plano hits that sweet, sweet spot between urban and suburban,” the report says. “Priding itself on its high-quality schools and larger-than-average apartments, the “City of Excellence” offers plenty of space for the whole family to feel comfortable, while still enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of this Southern place. Moreover, with its warm and upbeat vibe, there are tons of family-friendly entertainment venues — from bowling to escape room games and ziplining.”

Other Texas cities that made the top 50 are Round Rock at #6, Austin at #7, Conroe at #20, Denton at #33, Dallas at #35 and Houston at #48.
