The Plano African American Museum is hosting their second annual fundraiser, When Food Speaks, on October 12 from 4 to 9 p.m.
This year’s event will feature a history of food presentation by Keith Boudreaux, live entertainment from Unfaded Brass, door prizes and a gumbo cook-off. The deadline to register for the cook-off is October 10.
“The event celebrates the food culture brought over by the enslaved souls in Africa,” the Plano African American Museum said in a news release. “The Plano African American Museum is committed to telling the story of African American culture, history and community in Plano, Collin County, North Texas and America.”
Tickets to the event are $40, which provides access to the catered event meal from Tootie’s Southern Cooking, drink specials and samples of contestants’ gumbo to judge in the People’s Choice Award for best gumbo. Tickets for all of the above without samples or voting are $30.
The museum is located at 900 13th Street.
