UPDATED: Pilot dead after single-engine plane crashes in Plano shopping center

Updated 8:55 p.m.: Plano Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Daniel Daly confirmed the pilot of a small, single-engine plane died in the crash during a Tuesday evening press conference. Officials did not identify the pilot.

No other fatalities resulted from the crash, which occurred just before 6 p.m., Daly said.

Updated 7:20: The FAA has confirmed only one pilot was aboard the single-engine Mooney M20 that crashed at the shopping center, WFAA reports.

According the the outlet, no other vehicles were hit, although one nearby vehicle caught fire as a result of the crash.

Sources have told WFAA the pilot died in the crash.

An aircraft crash has been reported near Plano Parkway and Midway Road. Over two dozen emergency vehicles are on scene. This is a developing story.

The reported scene of the crash is less than a mile from the Air Park-Dallas Airport. It has not been confirmed whether the plane was taking off or landing at the time of the crash, or if it was coming from or to the nearby airport.

“Just saw it happen from my balcony,” Twitter user Richard Slarge posted. “Thought Mama’s Daughter’s Diner exploded.”

Slarge posted he heard a “loud explosion” followed by a “big plume of flames and smoke.”

Video posted to social media shows a small plane engulfed in flames near Mama’s Daughter’s Diner and Nail Addiction. Live footage from a FOX4 helicopter shows the fire has since been put out.

At this time there is no information on the status of the pilot, any pedestrians that may have sustained injuries or whether any passengers were in the plane at the time of the crash.
