Floor cracking delays opening of Plano ISD arts facility

Plano ISD officials announced Thursday that the opening of the district’s new fine arts facility has been delayed due to significant cracking on the floors.

The grand opening of the Robbie & Lynore Robinson Fine Arts Center had been scheduled for mid-January.   According to a statement from the district, cracking appears to be the result of poor workmanship and/or a design that does not meet the district’s aesthetic standards. Citing their obligation to students, parents, staff, taxpayers and other facility supporters, Plano ISD officials decided not to take occupancy of the building until the cracking issue is resolved.

“We will announce a new grand opening date as soon as we are able because we understand the ripple effect this has on our district and community,” Superintendent Sara Bonser said. “Plano ISD students deserve a facility that honors their commitment to the arts and our goal is to make sure that you, our district and our community can be proud of our new home for the arts in Plano ISD.”
