Plano’s High Point Tennis Center to host United States Texas Association’s Texas Slam youth tennis tournament

In June, Plano will be the site of the Texas Slam, one of the largest youth tennis tournaments in the country.

The United States Texas Association’s (USTA) Texas Slam youth tennis tournament, one of the largest youth tennis tournaments in the country, is slated to take place at High Point Tennis Center this year.

The tournament will include competitions for boys and girls from Texas across four age divisions in both singles and doubles. High Point Tennis Center assistant director Clint Sumrow will also serve as tournament chair.

“We are honored to co-host this prestigious event and are excited to welcome these incredible athletes to our newly renovated tennis center,” said Susie Hergenrader, assistant director for Recreation with Plano Parks and Recreation. “We look forward to making this an extraordinary event for both athletes and spectators, one that will be remembered for years to come.”

“High Point Tennis Center would like to thank USTA Texas for selecting us as the host site for the prestigious Texas Slam, one of the largest junior tennis tournaments in the United States,” Sumrow said. “We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting event.”

The section looks for qualified hosts that have an established history of running large scale, quality events, Melissa Chambers, chair of the USTA Texas Junior Competition, said in a news release. Previous Texas Slam host cities include Georgetown, Abilene, College Station and Wichita Falls.

The location won’t be the only update for this year’s event. Draws for the Texas Slam will be capped at 64 players per division shortening the event by one day, USTA said in a news release. A qualifier event will be added to give a final chance for Texas competitors to enter the prestigious tournament.

High Point Tennis Center, which earned the USTA’s Outstanding Facility Award in 2022, will serve as the main site for the event. The surrounding Plano area boasts 133 tennis courts and 100 courts within 10 miles of each other.

“We are excited to welcome these incredible athletes to Plano and specifically our newly renovated High Point Tennis Center,” Hergenrader said. “We look forward to making this an extraordinary event for both athletes and spectators, one that will be remembered for years to come.”
