Hyena’s Comedy Club will soon open a third location in Plano. The popular comedy club already has locations in Dallas and Fort Worth. Plano’s opening weekend is scheduled for October 1-3. The comedy club is located at the southwest corner of Park and Preston in the Preston Shepard Place shopping center, next door to World of Beer and behind Zoe’s Kitchen. We recently spoke with Hyena’s owner Randy Butler to get the details on the new Plano comedy club.
What do you have planned for opening weekend?
Opening weekend, October 8-10, will be Dustin Ybarra who got his start in DFW and now stars on Fox’s “Gotham.” (This answered has been edited from the original article.)
Why is Hyena’s expanding to Plano?
Plano is hugely populated with exactly the right demographic to enjoy comedy.
How are the shows set up?
Each show has 3 acts: an opener (a local comedian), a feature (another local comedian), and a headliner (the national act).
What can Plano people expect to see?
Thursday through Sunday nights, you’ll see professional comedians. Thursday night shows are always free unless there is a special event. This means you get to see the same national headliner who will perform on Friday and Saturday, but for free. Sundays are Open Mic nights.
Where do you find these comedians?
I’ve been booking comedy clubs for 30 years, so luckily people send me names now. DFW is a hot bed of activity. It’s the best market in the country for comedians actually. I look for people that are funnier than famous.
What are ticket prices like?
General Admission tickets are $12. Preferred seating is $17, which means you’re seated first and served first. Some special events may cost more.
What about eating and drinking?
The comedy showrooms have cocktail servers and you can be served from a full menu and full bar. We also have a lobby bar, which will be a little bigger than the one in our Dallas location.
Tickets for Plano shows are already on sale at Hyena’s website.
