Fernando Barrera is originally from Mexico City. Throughout his youth, he traveled across the globe as well as throughout the United States, and enjoyed visiting delis wherever he went. The one thing he always searched for, though, and never found: a Latin deli. Fast forward to 2020 and Fernando now owns Latin Deli with one location in Addison, one in Dallas and one soon-to-open location in Plano.
Fernando learned his way around the kitchen working in several restaurants, eventually working his way up to management. “At the same time, I studied graphic design, web design and accounting at El Centro and Richland College,” he shared. “Finally, nine years ago, I opened Latin Deli in the shopping center in the southeast corner of Abrams and Northwest Highway.”
His menu at all locations features a range of Latin-inspired dishes. Everything is made fresh-to-order and from local ingredients. The menu in Plano will include sandwiches, crepes, salads, coffee, smoothies, cupcakes and cookies.
Fernando’s personal favorite sandwiches include the chicken, the tripleta (Puerto Rico inspired), the lomo saltado (Peru inspired), and the pineapple pork (Venezuela inspired).
Latin Deli plans to open in March at 2237 W 15th St. in the former location of Bear Cha.
