5K supporting domestic abuse prevention set for October 19

The race includes a 5k and a one-mile fun run, with proceeds benefitting the L. Christina Smith Foundation.

The L. Christina Smith Foundation, a nonprofit centered around intervention for young domestic violence survivors, is hosting a 5K run and one-mile fun walk at Windhaven Meadows Park.

The MISSION: POSSIBLE walk and run benefits the nonprofit, named for Lontoinette Christina Smith, a mother of three and former sprinter who ran and coached marathons.  Registration is open now and costs $35 for the 5k or virtual 5k and $25 for the one-mile fun walk. The one-mile fun walk kicks off at 8 a.m., followed by the 5k run at 8:30 a.m.

“The major thrust of the MISSION:POSSIBLE Body Fit 5K Run & 1 Mile Fun Walk is to provide the opportunity for young people, their families and the community to join together for a time to stretch, walk, run and enjoy the outdoors in a family fun setting, that’s also pet-friendly,” the website stated, regarding the race. “Funds raised will be channeled toward developing tools and resources that educate and reinforce positive relationship building skills. Community engagement will be strengthened to become an even more prominent component in further development of middle school-aged children.”

Windhaven Meadows Park is located at 5400 Windhaven Parkway.
