More than 80% of gym membership owners spend over $30 on their memberships though around 38% of Americans go to the gym less than once a week, resulting in $1.3 billion wasted on unused gym memberships across the United States. Fortunately for us, Plano ranks #6 in the nation for the cheapest area for a gym membership.
In a study by TotalShape, the average price of a gym membership was calculated across a list of 80 United States cities. The average national cost for membership was $44.98, $18.44 more than Plano’s average.
Among the most expensive are Boston, Minneapolis, San Jose, Tacoma, Oakland, Denver, Anchorage, Washington, Santa Barbara, San Francisco and New York.
“Working out is a vital use of your time for not only your physical health but your mental well-being too. Whilst exercise can be done from anywhere, a gym membership can serve as a motivating factor for your fitness goals, whilst offering a space to escape from everyday life,” a spokesperson for TotalShape said. “The disparities in gym membership cost across the states is shocking to see – some areas have a much more accessible rate.”
