Effective March 10, Governor Greg Abbott has lifted the mask mandate and increased all businesses’ capacities to 100 percent in Texas. The governor cited the advancement in COVID-19 vaccinations as well as the importance of Texans’ “livelihoods and normalcy” for this decision.
Now that mask policies are left up to each individual restaurant, and enforcement falls on business owners, many feel they are in a difficult position to try to keep all customers happy.
“This is going to be a continuation of a difficult time for restaurant owners,” shared 1418 Coffeehouse owner David Bryant. “We are in a no-win situation with two sides so passionate. People blaming restaurants and trying to hurt them is unacceptable and unfair.”
“We have to do what we think is best and adhere to our number one priority, which is team and customer safety,” shared Dillas founder Kyle Gordon. “That being said, I would appeal to the humanitarian in every customer. Please respect the choices others make. Please respect your business owner’s choice to require or not require masks. Please remember that we’re not all vaccinated yet. If given the option, please continue to do what you can control to make yourself and others safe.”
As we navigate a gradual return to normalcy, let’s remember that business owners are just trying to do what they feel is best for their employees and their customers. If a restaurant requires masks, it will still be only when entering, leaving or moving about the restaurant. We can all continue to support local eateries through this difficult process, with options such as take-out orders and patio seating for those who don’t feel comfortable dining in yet.

Agree with LP. In addition, we definitely wont do business that requires employees to wear masks, but not the patrons. Although better than no masks, this one sided approach still puts employees at risk and makes me believe these restaurants are more concerned about profit over service
I will support the businesses the uphold our American freedoms of choice and do not require masks.
Freedom of choice is one thing, mandates are another. I’ll take freedom. Statistics say 503k dead ‘due to Covid’ out of 332 million in US. That’s a mortality rate of .0015. Overblown fear has hurt this country, state, and city. Politics have divided them even more.
