Rep. Van Taylor will host a veterans commendation ceremony from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday at the Collin College Spring Creek Campus.  Fifteen veterans from across Collin County will receive the honor, recognizing both their wartime sacrifices and peacetime community involvement.

“We are blessed to have many outstanding veterans in Collin County who answered the call to defend our freedoms and remain dedicated to living a life of service within our community,” Taylor said in a press release announcing the event. “I look forward to honoring these fifteen American heroes for their inspiring patriotism and willingness to serve.”

Fellow Congressman Brian Mast of Florida will deliver the keynote remarks. He worked as an Army bomb disposal expert in Afghanistan, serving under the elite Joint Special Operations Command. An improvised explosive device left him without both legs. He says that the advice he received from his father while recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center motivated him to continue serving his country and setting a good example for his children.

Other confirmed participants include Collin College President Dr. Neil Matkin, Pastor Trey Graham of First Baptist Melissa, the Honorable John Roach Jr., and host of JP, Kathy, and “The Crew” Kathy Ward.
