Sponsor a Duck and Support Local Families

This Side Up! Family (TSUF) is a Plano-based nonprofit that helps families go from surviving to thriving through programming that includes free family connection nights, parents’ night out, single parent support, clothing giveaways and more. Every year, the organization hosts a fun Lucky Duck fundraiser event in which people throughout Plano adopt rubber ducks to race for a chance to win prizes.

TSUF was hoping to host its annual duck race at the Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has gone virtual this year. Though there won’t be any in-person gathering, there will still be a duck race, and there will still be prizes. The first place prize is a $500 Visa gift card, second place is a $250 family membership for The Texas Pool for either 2020 or 2021, and third, fourth, and fifth places will receive a $25 gift card to a local business.

If you’d like to participate in the virtual race, you can adopt a rubber duck for $5, a Quack Pack of five ducks for $20, a Quacker Party of 30 ducks for $100, or you can send a duck on vacation for $20. The opportunity to adopt a duck runs through 4 p.m. on July 31.

Surprise a Neighbor

On top of the duck race, TSUF will also be delivering surprise flocks of ducks for a day of quarantine to the front yard of your friends, family, neighbors or colleagues. Flocks will be delivered daily through July 15 in the city of Plano or within 5 miles of the Plano city limits. It’s $25 for a small flock of 10 duck signs and $50 for a large flock of 20 duck signs. If you want to ensure you do not receive a flock of ducks, you can purchase anti-flocking insurance for a $30 donation. If you receive a flock and do not want the ducks quarantined with you for a full 24 hours, a $10 donation will provide an early release flock removal and a $30 donation will remove and migrate the flock to another yard of your choice.
