Plano ISD Director of Athletics Jeff Smith has announced that he will be returning to Prosper ISD, where he worked before coming to Plano in 2020.
During his time in Plano, Smith led the athletic program through the pandemic, spearheaded the vertical alignment of all Plano ISD high schools and added a sixth grade pre-athletics program.
“Jeff Smith has been an invaluable member of our Plano ISD leadership team. He truly has a servant’s heart and his work will leave a historic mark benefiting our programs and athletes for years to come,” Plano Superintendent Theresa Williams said. “We are sad to see him return to Prosper, however, we wish him the very best in his new role and know that he will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of student-athletes. Jeff will always be a part of our Plano ISD family and will be greatly missed. ”
Smith, who was previously assistant athletic director for Prosper ISD, will return to the district as athletic director. Prior to working in Prosper, Smith coached in McKinney and Lake Highlands.
“We are excited to have Coach Smith back and cannot wait to see what the future holds for our coaches and athletes,” Prosper ISD announced in a Facebook post.

Freeman and our Board of Trustees for entrusting me with serving and leading the athletics program in Plano ISD,” Smith said. “Their leadership and vision have been inspiring to me and I am excited about what the future holds for this great district. I truly believe that the best is yet to come!”
The new athletic director for Plano ISD has not yet been announced.
