Indian restaurant The Yellow Chilli officially opens its doors to the public Dec. 31 at The Shops at Legacy in Plano.
The Yellow Chilli is a concept from Sanjeev Kapoor Restaurants, named after the internationally renowned celebrity chef, who is also a TV show host and author. Kapoor has been called one of the most recognizable faces on Indian TV. The restaurant concept was launched in 2001, and made its U.S. debut in California in 2017.
Although the eatery is reportedly named for a special yellow chili used for cooking in the Indian city of Meerut, its menu is a culinary tour of the country, featuring classic Indian dishes with a contemporary twist. The Yellow Chilli offers a “high-quality family dining experience at down to earth prices,” according to its website.
The restaurant offers a large number of menu options, from soups, breads, dals and curries to biryani, chicken, lamb, seafood and vegetarian entrees.
Signature dishes include Lawrence Road Tandoori Murgh, a tandoori chicken inspired by the popular Lawrence Road of Amritsar, and Nalli Rogan Josh, lamb shanks with chili and yogurt, popular in Kashmir. There are plenty of options for vegetarians, such as Chana Jor Garam Tikki, cheesy potato patties, or Shaam Savera, spinach koftas filled with creamed cottage cheese and served in a tomato-butter gravy.
It seems as if the restaurant indeed realizes where it is located, though – one of the drinks displayed on its Instagram page this week was a Lychee Serrano Margarita.
The Yellow Chilli is open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Reservations are suggested.
