In their 100th production, Outcry Youth Theatre will be the first to incorporate flying into their show at the Courtyard Theatre this September.
The troupe is bringing in ZFX Flying Effects to put together the specialized theatrical rigging, hidden steel wire lines and full-body harnesses required to make this year’s Mary Poppins fly.
According to a news release, the load-in of equipment will take eight hours, followed by six hours of flying rehearsal. The added time will require Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts student Isaac Aranda, who plays Bert, and high schooler Madeline Knoff and University of Texas at Arlington student Olivia Holloway, who will alternate as Mary Poppins, to take off school to rehearse flying.
This milestone takes place during Outcry’s 100th production and 10th anniversary year.
Flying practice will take place on September 7 and 8 in time for the shows beginning Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. and ending Sept. 20 at 2 p.m.
