Assassination City Roller Derby opens new season at Thunderbird Roller Rink

The new derby season kicks off on Feb. 17 with two bouts of ACRD teams. Tickets are available online for $12 per person.

Assassination City Roller Derby (ACRD), a Plano-based women’s flat-track roller derby league and a founding member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, announced their upcoming season opener this week, set to begin Feb. 17.

The league started in 2005, named after the nickname given to Dallas following the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Since then, the group has grown to more than 100 skaters, volunteers and referees and moved its home base to Plano’s Thunderbird Roller Rink. Now, ACRD has a travel team and four home teams.

The opener is a family-friendly event featuring the Lone Star Assassins vs. ¡Viva la Revolución! followed by a second bout where the Deadly Kennedy’s will face off against the newly returned Bombshell Brigade.

“This season, ACRD is set to elevate its game, aspiring to reach new heighrs in WFTDA National rankings and making Plano, Texas the ultimate destination for roller derby athletes and enthusiasts alike,” the league said in a news release.

The season kicks off on Feb. 17 at Thunderbird Roller Rink at 3200 Thunderbird Lane. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with first whistle at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 each and the event is bring-your-own-chair and BYOB (no glass allowed). Season tickets are also available for $85.
