After months of competition, Bazaria Sweets owner Mohammad Alqawasmi was named a finalist in the Gelato Festival World Masters.

The Gelato Festival World Masters is in its sixteenth year of activity, now with thousands of participants from 22 countries.

Gelato is an Italian frozen dessert with more milk and less cream than ice cream. It is churned slowly, resulting in a denser treat.

Earlier this week, the North American Semifinals decided who will move on to the finals in August in Los Angeles. The finalists are:

  1. Tassia Vincentin Rezende of Tre Cuori Gelateria & Açaí in Ellisville, Missouri
  2. Mohammad Alqawasmi of Bazaria in Plano
  3. Francia Magsaysay of Francy’s Artisanal Ice Cream in Bergenfield, New Jersey
  4. Juan Antonio Coyoli Maciel of Super Creamy in Mexico City
  5. Stefania Pede from Cocoa 40 Inc. in Newmarket, Ontario

These five will compete against five others chosen at the first semifinal in the series, held in 2023, including gelatieres in New York City, Toronto, Cincinnati, Rhode Island and Illinois.
