Café Gecko set to open in downtown Plano

Addison’s loss is Plano’s gain.  The Café Gecko formerly located on Belt Line Road in Addison will soon reopen at 1410 K Avenue in downtown Plano.  The space has been vacant for nearly two years after Brix Bar & Grill shuttered in April 2020.

Founder Dennis Dial opened the first Café Gecko in Addison back in 1991.  This past November, he celebrated its thirteenth anniversary. It would be his last anniversary celebration there as the landlord informed him that they were not renewing his lease.  Apparently, the owners now envision the remodeled shopping center as a better fit for national chains.

“I took my bar and my moose,” Dial says.  “We gutted the place and moved to downtown Plano.”

That moose he is referring to is named Roland.  The mounted capreoline has been overlooking the crowd for years and will continue to do so in the new location.

Roland the moose keeps watch over things in the former Cafe Gecko in Addison. He will soon make his debut in Plano.

The antique bar from the Addison location has been carefully installed in Plano.  Nearly all the staff from there will be migrating over as well. The menu, which boasts “foods from sunny latitudes” will remain virtually the same. However, it will now also include pizza like Café Gecko’s other locations in west Plano, Richardson and Fairview

Dial says most of the construction work should be completed this week. He hopes to have the new spot up and running by the end of February or shortly thereafter.

“We are really excited to get this one open,” he said. “We love the area and are excited to be there.”

Hey Plano Magazine, this is David from 1418 Coffee, great things are happening on K Avenue. We are looking forward to having neighbors on both sides of us. Love to see an article about the revival of K Ave. We also have launched the 1418 Coffee blends with our house blend called K Avenue and our Espresso blend called Downtown. You guys did a nice article and we have since made great progress. Just released our new packaging and very pleased. Thanks for paying attention to K Avenue…
