Calling All Artists: Downtown Plano Arts District Seeks Your Talent

The City of Plano is seeking local artists to create original, large-scale, freestanding artwork to adorn the portal, or entrance, to the Downtown Plano Arts District. There are seven designated locations on 15th Street between US 75/Central Expressway and G Avenue. All seven locations allow for electricity to be included in the final design. In their designs, artists should give careful consideration to traffic sightlines and pedestrians.

This first stage is a call for artist qualifications. That deadline is May 9. A panel of downtown Plano stakeholders will then narrow the artists down to a small group and ask for their specific design proposals for the downtown portal. Once the artists’ proposals are in, the panel will choose finalists to present their proposals to City Council members for final selection.

Selected artist compensation: $300,000, includes design, implementation and install.
