Babies, brews, pups and tunes. That was the scene at Saturday’s Food Truck Derby in downtown Plano. Although Hub Streat won’t officially be open for a few months, the downtown Plano culinary entertainment center threw quite a shindig Saturday, Jan. 28 to preview their digs to North Texans. Hub Streat estimates that 3,500 people attended throughout the entire day.
Dozens of DFW’s best food trucks lined up to serve a variety of dishes from fried pies to mac ’n’ cheese sliders. Guests voted on their favorite truck by returning raffle tickets at the end of the day. The food trucks voted “chompion” were:
First Place
Guava Tree
Second Place
Press Waffle Company
Third Place
Sandy Sues BBQ
A bar was set up providing thirsty derby-goers with cocktails, wine, Titos vodka and lots of local favorite brews: Lone Star, Shiner Bock, Dos Equis, Austin East Ciders, Four Corners El Chingon plus a few others.
Todd Stewart and Kevin Ockwood started the morning out with some tunes. Lone Star Bottle Band entertained the afternoon crowd with some countrified covers.
Throughout the day raffle tickets were sold for $2 each. Winners were randomly drawn for these prizes from Hub Streat: a $50 Hub Streat gift card, a S’mores Fire Pit Party for 8, a Pizza Party for 15, a Hub Streat Pavilion Party for 15 and a Private Party with Atlas Tacos for 40.
If the good vibes at the Food Truck Derby were any indication, Hub Streat will be a welcome addition to downtown Plano’s entertainment and dining scene.
