The Kati Roll Company, a popular New York Indian cuisine concept, is opening its first Plano location this Saturday, marking the second location in DFW.
The Downtown Dallas location opened in the spring as the first franchise location for the kati roll joint. The Kati Roll Company aims to bring kati rolls to people who may have never had them, according to a news release. According to a recent article in D Magazine, the only other place in Plano to get them might be Desi District, just a few blocks away.
“When we brought the concept to Texas, we knew we wanted the first location in the heart of Dallas, but we always had the suburbs on the mind,” says franchise owner, Hebron Sher. “There is a huge South Asian community within the Dallas metroplex, and we’ve felt the love & excitement for the Plano location the moment the exterior sign went up on the building. We are thrilled to bring the familiar cuisine to the fans of the brand, but also excited to introduce Plano residents to something that is maybe new for them!”
According to a news release, kati rolls are a popular street food in Kolkata, India. The rolls are made with skewer-grilled ingredients stuffed in a buttery paratha flatbread and topped with chutneys and spices. New fans of the restaurant compare kati rolls to an Indian gyro or burrito.
Saturday’s opening will bring $5 kati rolls all day long for guests.
The restaurant was started in New York City in 2002 by Payal Saha, who moved there from Kolkata in the early 2000s. Now, the restaurant has four locations in Manhattan and two in London, with franchise locations in Dallas and Plano.
Popular kati roll flavors include a chicken tikka roll, an aloo masala roll, a shami kabob roll, unda paneer roll or, to drink, lassi, an Indian-style yogurt smoothie made daily with homemade yogurt.
The Kati Roll Company is located at 5588 State Highway 121 and will be open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 11 to 12 a.m.
