Liberty Mutual Insurance held a topping out ceremony on April 11 for their new corporate campus in Plano near Legacy West, at the southwestern corner of Sam Rayburn Tollway and Dallas North Tollway.
For those unfamiliar with the term topping out, it’s traditionally a ceremony where the last beam of a building is signed by builders, employees and notable guests and put into place. Of course these days, usually the signed beam is commemorative only and may be placed on display in the building. In this case it will go into a penthouse inside the Liberty Mutual Insurance building.
At the Liberty Mutual topping out, Plano Mayor LaRosiliere and representatives from city government, Plano Chamber of Commerce and media were treated to a tour by developer KDC and general contractor Balfour Beatty of the under-construction 19-story, 1.1 million-square-foot campus. Liberty Mutual hopes to have employees moved into the completed campus by this December.
When finished, Liberty Mutual’s campus will have taken 2.5 million man hours to construct and will include:
• 2 acres of roof
• 130,000 cubic yards of concrete
• 80 miles of pipe and conduit
• 7.5 acres of glass
• Two outdoor courtyards on the 8th floor
