The free event will take place on September 5 at Christ United Methodist Church, featuring local vendors and expert speakers.

The Dallas & Northeast Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Collin County residents to attend a free conference for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia, Mapping the Journey: Navigating Alzheimer’s & Dementia, on September 5.

Plano Mayor John B. Muns will kick off the event, which will feature local vendors that provide area resources and guest speakers.

“This year’s event will give caregivers a chance to learn more about the tremendous resources available in the area, learn more about groundbreaking progress in the field of Alzheimer’s and dementia, and, most importantly, connect with one another and build an even stronger network of support,” said Courtney Ranger, director of programs and services at the Alzheimer’s Association Dallas & Northeast Texas Chapter.

The conference will feature speakers including Susan Rogers, representing Dementia Friendly Dallas; Yune Lee from the University of Texas at Dallas Speech Language and Music (SLAM) Lab; Erin Peirce and Lauren Olson, attorneys with Leu, Peirce & Olson Elder Law Attorneys; and Brendan Kelley, a physician at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Though the event is free, registration is required. Mapping the Journey will take place at Christ United Methodist Church at 3101 Coit Road on September 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
