My Possibilities and Soap Hope are teaming up to train, employ and support people with intellectual and or developmental disabilities (IDD). My Possibilities (MP) is a Plano-based nonprofit organization that serves as a North Texas leader in vocational education for adults with IDD. Students in its program are called “HIPsters” – Hugely Important People. Soap Hope is an online retailer that carries natural and organic soaps, lotions, makeup, candles and other types of cleansing products, delivering them straight to your home.

After thorough planning between the two organizations, Soap Hope has become fully integrated into the mission of MP. The employment opportunity for each HIPster will serve as part of their curriculum. HIPsters will work in different job roles including warehouse, shipping and assembly.

“Even before this project began, I was a huge Soap Hope fan – it has so many great, healthy products that everyone needs for their household. Now that we’ve made the company 100 percent about inclusive employment for folks with disabilities, it’s an even more perfect place to shop,” My Possibilities Executive Director Michael Thomas said.

This integration between MP and Soap Hope is the beginning of a long-term plan at MP to work with social enterprises. The initiative is called MPact, launched to demonstrate the value of inclusive employment of people both with and without disabilities. On top of this, MPact will also be a key driver of sustainability for MP, generating revenue that will enable the organization to serve even more individuals.

“MPact has become a powerful bridge between educational programming and a workforce that increasingly seeks to employ individuals with disabilities,” Michael shared.

Thanks to the joint pioneering effort, more individuals with disabilities will have the chance to engage in vocational learning as well as meaningful employment, and shoppers can purchase knowing they will make a difference in someone’s life.
